Concord, a town northwest of Boston, has a key place in U.S. history as a town shaped by rebellion, militiamen and the revolutionary spirit. It was here that some 2,000 militiamen -- nicknamed "minutemen" for their ability to be ready for action at a moment's notice -- gathered to pursue British troops. The city's North Bridge has significant national importance as the historic site of the Battle of Concord, the first day of the American Revolutionary War. When news of the battle reached London, it represented a strong statement about the grit of the patriotic forces. Honored today in American history as the first military engagement of the American Revolutionary War, Concord paved the way for freedom and the creation of the United States of America.

However, in addition to its revolutionary history, the ancient city of Concord is known for being home to several authors and the Transcendentalist movement. The town was where Thoreau wrote On Walden Pond, where the author of The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne, lived, and where Louisa May Alcott grew up in the Orchard House, one of the main characters in her novel Little Women. During the tour, you will have the opportunity to visit Orchard House, with tickets included to explore the house. Delve into the area's fascinating literary history by visiting Author's Ridge and the home of Louisa May Alcott. For true literary enthusiasts, we recommend visiting The Concord Bookshop, where you can purchase the works of all the authors who have lived in the town.
