Prisoners in the Mamertine Prison (also known as the Tullianum) were transported to their cells through a hole in the ceiling, but luckily you can use the stairs.
Armed with a video guide, explore what is essentially the dungeon of the church of San Pietro in Carcere, a prison that housed defeated kings, criminals and even Saints Peter and Paul.
It's small, dark and cramped, but it's one of the most atmospheric places in the Roman Forum! You'll also see the bars where St. Peter was supposedly chained and the pool of water he used to baptize visitors.
Once you've finished immersing yourself in this special piece of history, make your way into the architectural marvel that is the Colosseum. You'll be able to explore this historic arena and the Roman Forum at your own pace.

* Collect your Colosseum voucher at the Mamertine Prison voucher office.
* You will be able to access the Colosseum 1 hour after visiting the Mamertine Prison.

* After visiting the prison, enter the Colosseum from the entrance next to the Mamertine Prison.
* Make sure you are at the Colosseum 15 minutes before your assigned time at the Mamertine Prison .
* The time chosen refers to the Mamertine Prison.
* A valid ID is required
* Children under 6 years old and visitors with a disability of 74% (with an accompanying person) enter free of charge.

* The Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill can be visited on the same day as the Colosseum or the following day within 24 hours.
* Last admission to the Colosseum is one hour before closing time. If you choose the last time slot you can visit the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill the next day.
* On busy days, the mandatory security check at the Colosseum may take 30 minutes or more.
