This magnificent fortress dominates the center of Rome and dates back to the 2nd century. It served as a military building, a prison, a papal residence and finally a mausoleum for the emperor Hadrian.
Standing proud on the banks of the Tiber, Castel Sant'Angelo is now home to seven floors of incredible halls housing artistic masterpieces. The seven floors are connected by a stunning spiral ramp that winds its way inside the circular building.

Here, you'll find a large collection of historic artworks, including paintings, tapestries, sculptures, bas-reliefs, mosaics, and many other opulent pieces.
This large collection was built up over several centuries of Borghese nobility, most notably by Scipione Borghese, an important cardinal during the papacy of Paul V. The Borghese are one of the best-known ancient houses in Italy, famous for their involvement in government , in society and in the Catholic Church.
The influential family amassed a large fortune, and their collection of antiquities was so large that it was decided to transfer it all from their other Roman properties to the beautiful Villa Borghese. The Capitoline Museum, also known as the Museum of the Roman Empire, was established when Pope Sixtus IV donated his collection of statues to the people of Rome in 1471.

21. Leonardo Da Vinci experience

Through the museum's collection of inventions and reproductions of paintings, you'll begin to understand how diverse and vast Da Vinci's oeuvre was.
The Leonardo Da Vinci Experience is home to over 50 recreations of his inventions, built in line with Da Vinci's original designs. From bicycles to digging equipment, his creations have been many and varied, plus visitors will have the opportunity to use some of the machines on display.
The Experience also hosts 20 certified reproductions of Da Vinci's paintings, all painted by certified restorers of the Vatican Museums.

Near the iconic Trevi Fountain is a labyrinth of underground passageways that will allow you to delve into Rome's fascinating history.
Buried nine meters beneath the busy streets of Rome's Trevi district lies an ancient building complex with a fascinating history to discover. You'll see an example of a domus romana, a Roman house that was typically occupied by the upper classes during the republican and imperial eras of the empire. You'll also see the Castellum Aquae (a Roman water dispenser) of the Aqua Virgo, one of 11 aqueducts that supplied ancient Rome with water and still supplies water to the Trevi Fountain today.
You'll learn a lot about the city's history as you admire these preserved structures. Your journey back in time will introduce you to some of the most important events of ancient Rome that have characterized the history of the city, from the creation of the Aqua Virgo to the fire of Nero, from the sack of Alaric to the siege of the Goths. 25. Candlelight concert

The string quartet plays well-known classical pieces such as Vivaldi's stirring Four Seasons concertos.
Concerts are held in the 19th-century Waldensian Evangelical Church, a lovely Renaissance-style building just off Piazza Venezia in central Rome.
The church's intricate interior, with its coffered ceilings, stone columns and stained glass windows, provides an impressive ambiance and excellent acoustics for candlelit evening concerts.
These electrifying concerts last approximately 50 minutes and take place every Saturday in May and June. The central location of the church also offers an excellent opportunity to take an evening stroll to the nearby Roman Forum, Pantheon and Trevi Fountain after the show.
