Admire the grandeur of Porto's beloved icon, the Torre dos Clérigos. This magnificent tower, located next to the baroque masterpiece Igreja dos Clérigos, is visible from several vantage points of the city and represents a recognizable symbol of Porto. Commissioned by the Brotherhood of Clérigos and designed by Nicolau Nasoni - a renowned 18th-century Italian architect whose influence extended to northern Portugal - the church began its construction in 1732 and was completed around 1750. In the mid-1750s the stunning split staircase at the front of the church, which perfectly complements the façade adorned with intricate baroque details.
