The Eternal City is famous for its thousand-year history made up of battles, conquests, intrigues and mysteries, of great heroes and restless souls who do not want to leave the scene as time passes. And so they are thought to move through the alleys, bridges and squares of this mysterious and sometimes ghostly city of ours.
Our adventure begins from Castel Sant'Angelo, which we will only see from the outside.
This place is known for its prisons where nobles, artists and common criminals lived.
Once we leave the Castle, we will continue along Via del Governo Vecchio to reach Piazza Pasquino. There is a statue of an ancient Greek hero, or what remains of it: a bust and a "swollen" face. After leaving the statue, you then reach Piazza Navona.
Restless spirits also hover over the next stop, the Pantheon, a masterpiece of Roman engineering, first a pagan temple and then a Catholic church. We will finally arrive in Piazza della Minerva. At its center since 1667, we can admire the Minerva obelisk placed on the back of a small elephant known as "The little elephant of Minerva".
A little further on is Largo di Torre Argentina, where the great Julius Caesar was murdered, one of the most eclectic and important figures of the Roman Empire, who still carries with him many mysteries today.
We will conclude our tour in Piazza Mattei, which takes its name from the Giacomo Mattei palace that overlooks it.
