If a tourist wants to see Michelangelo's David he can do it in Piazza della Signoria in front of Palazzo Vecchio or in the middle of Piazzale Michelangelo; if he wants to admire the original, however, he can do it only and exclusively at the Accademia Gallery.

This is the ideal place in the city to discover not only Michelangelo's most famous work, the David, but also other masterpieces by the great Florentine artist: the Four Prisons, St Matthew and the Palestrina Pietà. This exceptional concentration of Michelangelo's works has contributed greatly to the Accademia Gallery's fame, making it the second most visited museum in Florence after the Uffizi.

Given the relative narrowness of the museum's spaces and the large number of visitors, long lines of tourists waiting to get in are the order of the day.
