After the award-winning triumph of The Ferryman, Jez Butterworth, author of Jerusalem, and Sam Mendes, director of the Lehman Trilogy, return to the West End with The Hills of California. The acclaimed playwright's latest work, a generational drama spanning decades of one family's past, will be on stage at the Harold Pinter Theatre, for a limited season, from January 27 to June 15, 2024. 'This house. It's called ' Sea view.' It's just that I looked out of every window, and you can't. You can't see the sea." Blackpool, 1976. The driest summer for 200 years. The beaches are crowded. The hotels are crowded. In the stuffy alleys, far from the icicles and donkey rides, the Webb sisters return to their mother's dilapidated boarding house, who lies dying upstairs.
